There is one thing our “Most Common Complaint” and “Most Asked Question” always have in common: you’re looking for more events in your area.

Over the past year and a half that NC K-pop Hive has been active, we have seen a growing number of fans searching for a local community and in-person connections.

While we cannot guarantee that an event will come to your area within the next month, we can guarantee that it will become possible if someone is willing to be the first to host.

That said, we know hosting an event on your own can feel overwhelming. We are here to help guide you through starting your own event group so you can connect with others in your area who may be interested in helping out.

We have six total tasks to get you started!

Task 1: Determine Your Scope

Start by asking yourself a few key questions. How far are you personally able or willing to travel? Would that distance change if others were able to help? Do you want to host in-person events, online events, or a mix of both?

You might begin by focusing on your local town, city, or county. If you are comfortable traveling farther, you could expand to a region or coast.

Examples:

  • Black Mountain (Town, East Asheville)

  • Asheville, NC (City) or Buncombe County (Asheville, Weaverville, Black Mountain, Woodfin, Biltmore Forest, Montreat)

  • Western North Carolina (WNC region)

  • North Carolina (State)

  • East Coast USA (including Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida)

  • United States (general, traveling, or online)

Next, think about content. Are you focused solely on K-pop, or do you want to include other interests like pop culture, anime, gaming, BLs, or K-dramas? Do you plan to focus on one artist or multiple groups? Are you open to all types of events, or do you want something more niche, such as a maid café, dance-focused events (RPDs, showcases, workshops), baking classes, or art and design workshops tied to K-pop? Your scope should reflect both your interests and your capacity.

Task 2: Pick Your Name

Once you know where you will be hosting and what kind of events you want to create, it is time to choose a name and write a short bio to match. Do not stress about making it perfect. You can always change it later.

To start, consider combining your location and focus, such as “ashevillekpop,” “wnchallyuwave,” “wnc.skz,” or “blackmtn.kpopcafe.” These names are easy to identify and clearly tied to your area, which helps local fans find you faster.

If the name is available across multiple platforms, we highly recommend starting with Meta apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads for broader local reach. X and TikTok can also be helpful, but they may take longer to build strong local connections.

As you begin connecting with people in your area, you can collaborate on a new name, logo, and a landing page that better reflects your shared goals and identity.

Tip: If you’re not confident in designing a unique logo, start with something similar to your town/city logo to help with that recognition. Once you begin recruiting, specify that you’d like a fellow K-pop fan/volunteer to help with a new logo!
